European Investment Bank

On 01/01/1979 , European Investment Bank has started to cooperate with Egypt.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) was established in 1958 with headquarters in Luxemburg.  EIB’s 27 members are the EU member states.
Cooperation between Egypt and EIB dates back to 1979. Until 2010, EIB has financed projects worth a total of EUR 5 billion, out of which EUR 3.3 billion was offered through the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP). FEMIP was established by EIB in 2002 for providing financing to neighboring Mediterranean countries (Egypt, Tunis, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza/West Bank, Israel) in the sectors of energy, environment, SME industrial support, transport and industries.  EIB’s regional office in Cairo was opened in 2003 for overseeing Egypt’s relationship with the EIB.

A framework agreement was signed between Egypt and EIB in 1997.
