The Joint Committee between Egypt and Uzbekistan

Historical Background

The Egyptian Uzbek Joint Committee aims to promote economic and trade relations and to open up new areas of cooperation in line with both countries’ potentials and to identify the available opportunities for marketing Egyptian products, enriching and supporting the ties of friendship and collaboration in political, economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural fields.

Sessions Held

The first session of the Egyptian Uzbek Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Tashkent in June 1996, followed by six other sessions of the Joint Committee, the last of which was in Cairo during 4-5 May 2009.

Important Recommendations /Agreements Signed at the Last Session:

The sixth session of the Egyptian Uzbek Joint Committee focused on discussing ways to enhance cooperation between both countries, where it was agreed to pin practical mechanisms to increase the volume of trade.  Discussions also tackled ways of enhancing joint cooperation in areas where both countries have comparative advantages, such as the fields of irrigation and water resources, agriculture, health and medicine.  At the end of sixth session, a number of documents were signed, including:
MOU on cooperation in the field of irrigation between the Ministries of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt and of Uzbekistan.
Twinning Agreement between the cities of Cairo and Tashkent.
Twinning Agreement between the Suez Canal University and Samarkand University.
MOU on cooperation in the field of archives between the Egyptian National Library and Archives (Dar El-Kotob) and the Uzbek Central Archive.
Protocol of the sixth session of the Egyptian Uzbek Joint Commission.
On the sidelines of the event, a seminar on investment organized by the Egyptian Businessmen's Association was held in the presence of the Uzbek Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Trade and Investment, and with the participation of representatives of the business community from both countries.
